Experience an unforgettable journey through Tanzania — starting in Moshi at the foot of Kilimanjaro, exploring the lush Materuni waterfalls and coffee farms, descending into the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, tracking wildlife across the endless plains of Serengeti National Park, and ending at the otherworldly, flamingo-filled shores of Lake Natron.
This 8-day journey is a rare blend of culture, crater and wilderness. It begins gently in Moshi at the foot of Kilimanjaro, then climbs into the Chagga highlands at Materuni for waterfalls, coffee farms, and village life. From there you'll meet the Maasai at Engare Nanyuki, game drive through Tarangire's elephant herds, descend into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, and spend two full days deep in the Serengeti. The final chapter takes you off the classic circuit entirely, to the volcanic shores of Lake Natron — home to East Africa's largest flamingo breeding colony and the active Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano.
Best season: Year-round. Materuni and Engare Nanyuki are rewarding in any month; the Serengeti and Ngorongoro are best June–October (dry, peak wildlife) or January–March (calving season).
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your driver-guide will meet you and drive you to Moshi, the friendly gateway town at the foot of Kilimanjaro. Settle in, relax after your flight, and enjoy dinner and overnight at your lodge.
After breakfast, transfer to Materuni Waterfall on the edge of Kilimanjaro National Park. Visit Materuni Village, an authentic Chagga settlement, and spend the day hiking to the waterfall while learning about Chagga culture. You'll get hands-on with a step-by-step coffee-making experience, from bean to cup. In the late afternoon, drive to West Kilimanjaro for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, enjoy a walking safari and Maasai cultural activities at Engare Nanyuki with a local Maasai guide. Return to the lodge for a hot lunch, then drive to Arusha for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park for game viewing — famous for its enormous elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. In the late afternoon, continue on to Karatu for dinner and overnight.
Waking early after breakfast, descend into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater for a safari with a picnic lunch. The crater is one of the most densely populated wildlife areas in Africa, home to approximately 30,000 animals, including some of Tanzania's last black rhinos. At 8,300 km², it is the largest unbroken volcanic caldera in the world and arguably the most stunning natural amphitheatre on Earth. Later in the day, drive on to the Serengeti for dinner and overnight.
The Crater: Only 4×4 vehicles with pop-up roofs are permitted inside the crater. No walking outside your vehicle except at designated picnic areas. Crater fees are included in the package.
A full day in the heart of wild Africa — Serengeti National Park — with its endless plains stretching into the distance. We head towards the central Seronera Zone, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park. The Seronera River provides a vital water source and attracts a diverse range of wildlife, including most of the species found in the Serengeti. Enjoy a full safari across the area before returning for dinner.
After breakfast, begin the drive to Lake Natron via the Klein's Gate entrance. Arrive at Ngaresero village and check in at the lodge, then set off with a Maasai guide to the nearby waterfalls. Dinner and overnight at your eco-lodge on the lake shore.
Early morning visit to Lake Natron itself — home to East Africa's largest lesser flamingo breeding colony and views of the active Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano — before heading back to the lodge for brunch. Pack your luggage and your driver-guide will begin the drive back for your departure from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport, if flying on to Zanzibar.
Lake Natron: The lake's high alkalinity gives it striking red and pink hues and makes it the primary breeding ground for East Africa's lesser flamingos. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended for the shoreline visit.
